Howto create a lego figure 3d model in Blender 3D – Part 3: hips

Tutorial in Blender 3D how to easy model  LEGO minfigure hips in 13 steps


Hi together,

i hope you enjoyed the first Blender 3D tutorial: „Howto model a LEGO minifigure in Blender 3D – Part 2: legs„.
Today i will show you how to to model the hips of a  LEGO(TM) minifigure with Blender 3D.  This tutorial is part of my blender 3d – series „make your own lego minifigure in blender 3d“

( You have to activate the first 6 layers to see the complete LEGO-Man)

Requirements:

Linux / Windows
Blender (Tutorial made with Blender 2.70)
Basic Blender Skills

 

STEPS

1.) Create a Cube and scale it like on the picture below

2.) Devide it with loop cuts (STRG+R) like on the next 3 screenshots

2 cuts and scale (Press S) while they are selected

2 Cuts and move them a litte bit up

3.) Stay in edit-mode an add a cylinder with 8 verticles

4.) Scale it so that the width is the same like the with of our first 2 cuts

5.) Delete the faces like shown on the following 2 screenshots

6.) Add faces

7.) Select the outer edges and move them a litte bit down

8.) Scale the cylinder, but only in the direction of the green and blue arrow

9.) Select the upper side of the cuboid and move it a litte bit down

10.) Select the cylinder and the outer edges like shown above and move it a litte bit up

11.) Add the subdivision surface modifier and set the view and render to 3

12.) Now it should look like on the following screenshot

13.) Now we have to sharpen the edges – i did ths with the loop cuts (STRG+R).
You can also use sharpen edges, but in my opinion the result is better by using loop cuts
After we did that, that should be your result

14.)Now we are finished and after adding a color and set a light, you can create a nice rendered hip
